You remember the movie “Face Off?”

Scott | Uncategorized | Friday, February 28th, 2003

You remember the movie “Face Off” with Travolta and Nick Cage? Where the guys trade faces and the hilarity ensues? Yeah, it was great wasn’t it?Well, check out this link…crazy stuff!

Burns Girl to Have First Face Transplant
The first person ever to receive a face transplant is likely to be a 16-year-old Irish girl who suffered horrific injuries as a baby when her father’s car exploded into flames.
Lena Marie Murphy will have the surgery at the Royal Free Hospital in north London within months in an operation which will make medical history. (Evening Standard )
I’m not sure if this would pass any American led ethics committe for numerous reasons. It raises a lot of questions, and for one, wouldn’t you be a bit freaked it you saw the face of a dead relative of someone you didn’t know…”Hey, wasn’t that aunt Sheila? I thought she was taller? Oh yeah, she’s dead.” Not sure on this one.

Sad Day in Neighborhood: Beloved Mister Rogers Ddes

Scott | Uncategorized | Thursday, February 27th, 2003

PITTSBURGH – Fred Rogers, who gently invited millions of children to be his neighbor as host of the public television show “Mister Rogers Neighborhood” for more than 30 years, died of cancer early Thursday. He was 74.

Rogers died at his Pittsburgh home, said family spokesman David Newell, who played Mr. McFeely on the show. Rogers had been diagnosed with stomach cancer sometime after the holidays, Newell said.

He was so genuinely, genuinely kind, a wonderful person,? Newell said. ?His mission was to work with families and children for television. … That was his passion, his mission, and he did it from day one.? (The Associated Press)

The man has been around for a long time so most of you out there know him, grew up with him and for the most part either acknowledge him or respect him. I used to love the show when I was growing up it ranked up there with Sesame Street. What would you think if Kermit died, it kind of had that impact on me. Anyways, this is just another passing event that marks the progression of our lives.

A Shocking Verdict: Burglar gets zapped, bar owner must pay

Jesse Ingram, of Aurora, Illinois, was fed up with the three break-ins of his tavern in the period of a month back in 1997. So he decided to fashion a homemade security system. Essentially, he hotwired the windows of the place so that, if they were broken into, they would deliver an electric shock to those with a larcenous frame of mind. He even put up signs warning of the existence of the security system and what might happen if the windows were broken into. Entering stage left came a rather luckless burglar by the name of Larry Harris…

Another sad day in the justice system. What is this world coming to?

Like the phoenix from the ashes, the once-wildly popular Napster song-swapping service is slated to be relaunched before the end of the year, its new corporate parent Roxio Inc. said.

Once the scourge of the music industry, Napster had at its peak in 2000 more than 60 million people using its software that allowed Internet users to copy and share music for free, until the five largest record companies successfully sued the company for copyright infringement.

Sickly Sub Stickily Stubs Secondgraders …yah

A Department of Education spokesperson says: ”The teacher allegedly said one of the students asked if she would put tape over the student’s mouth. So she did, and then another student asked for it and then another, and before long they all had tape on their mouths.” The substitute teacher has been fired. (Boston Globe)<

Free money

Scott | Uncategorized | Friday, February 21st, 2003

Today a friend told me that he once was at an ATM machine and requested a small amount of cash, not extraordinary. He received the first $20, then the second and so on and so on. Way more money than he had asked for. By the time the machine was done, he looked at his balance and noticed that it was not effected sans the initial withdrawl. I asked him “didn’t you return the money?” His reply, “no.” I then proceeded to tell him how wrong it was, it wasn’t his money, that his face was on a video monitor and that his transaction with account info was all recorded at the same time this misshap occured. Oh yeah, and you go to jail if you get caught keeping the money. His response, “yeah, I kept the money.” Would you keep the money? Probably not. By mear coincidence I ran into this article.

Man Charged with Keeping Proceeds of Bank Teller’s Screw-up

Charles A. Delvecchio Jr., 36, went to a bank to cash a check written out for about $26. The teller mistakenly paid him almost $2,600, and Delvecchio walked away with the cash. The bank later called him and asked for the money back, but Delvecchio allegedly said he wanted to keep it. He’s been charged. (NJ.com)

The world is full of coincidences isn’t it…some of us just have to learn our lessons the hard way I guess.
