Did you know? Cleaning up Gmail, Tip #4

I use starring to indicate how important a message is and how soon I need to respond to it. Gmail has added the ability to use different “stars” if you turn on their experimental feature.

I use the plain yellow star to indicate that a message is important, I use the red and the yellow exclamation points to indicate a higher level of importance for a message. Of course you can use them in whichever manner you choose, but they’re there and they’re useful.

You want to turn them on? If you go into your settings (up in the top right), there should be a labs tab to the far right. Go down to “Superstars” and enable the feature.

To use these in an actual email, all you need to do is click the star shape next to the From: field in an email.

Note:
The plain star works for everyone but the Labs tab may not be there for all users, not sure why this is, I’ll check into it.
