[Note: this is a Mac only download] A number of us Mac folks use Adium to tie together our various IM accounts. I’m sure, if you’re like me, you get a number of spammy IMs from the likes user xhmlkdylkyd@hotmail.com letting you know that you can make $1,000 a day selling cheap crap. Lovely.
Luckily there’s a plugin for Adium called Challenge Response that helps you squash these messages. From Lifehacker -
Challenge Response prevents instant messaging spam by requiring unknown users to answer a quick challenge question before interrupting you with their message. Challenges would look something like, “What is the square root of 49 in numerical form?” which requires a response of “7,” but you can customize your own question and answer. Once a user answers correctly (i.e., verifies intelligence), Challenge/Response adds that user to a whitelist and they won’t be challenged again.
